Caustic soda flakes for alumina and metals
How the industry uses caustic soda flakes
The Bayer process digests bauxite in hot caustic solution to dissolve alumina — it is one of the largest industrial uses of NaOH in the world. Metal plants also use caustic for surface cleaning, etching and pickling-neutralisation.
- Bayer-process digestion of bauxite for alumina production
- Caustic etching and cleaning of aluminium, zinc and copper surfaces
- Neutralisation of acidic pickling baths in steel and galvanising plants
- Mineral processing and ore leaching where strong alkalinity is required
What to specify when you buy
- Low iron — iron carried in with the caustic ends up in the alumina or on the metal surface; our independently tested iron oxide result was 0.0006% (6 ppm).
- High assay — digestion efficiency is a direct function of available NaOH.
- Steady multi-container supply — refining and galvanising lines cannot stop; discuss a shipment schedule rather than single lots.
Recommended supply
For continuous operations, 99% min flakes in jumbo bags with a rolling FCL schedule is the usual arrangement. Send your monthly tonnage for a programmed offer.
