Caustic soda flakes for water treatment

How the industry uses caustic soda flakes

Water and effluent plants use sodium hydroxide to raise pH, neutralise acidic streams and precipitate dissolved heavy metals as hydroxides. Flakes are dissolved on site into a lye solution and dosed by metering pump — for plants without bulk liquid tanks, flakes are the practical way to keep stock.

  • pH adjustment and alkalinity control in municipal and industrial water treatment
  • Neutralisation of acidic industrial effluent before discharge or biological treatment
  • Precipitation of heavy metals (lead, copper, nickel, zinc) as insoluble hydroxides
  • Regeneration of ion-exchange resins in demineralisation plants

What to specify when you buy

  • Assay 99% min — dosing calculations assume full strength; every point below 99% shows up in chemical consumption.
  • Low iron and chloride — iron can discolour treated water; chloride adds corrosivity to the system.
  • Fresh, free-flowing stock — caked or carbonated flakes dissolve slowly and block dosing lines. Our bags are moisture-barrier lined for exactly this reason.

Recommended supply

Most treatment plants take the 99% min grade in 25 kg bags for manual make-up, or 1 MT jumbo bags where a crane or hoist is available.
